Hi! We're Matilda and Diane!

Matilda is studying the MA in Textiles Design at the Swedish School of Textiles. She is from Sweden and lives in Boras; smart textiles are quite an unexplored area for her.

Diane is studying the MA Fashion Futures at the London College of Fashion. She is from Switzerland but currently lives in London for her course. She was introduced to smart textiles during the last E4FT workshop held in London

Today was the first day of the workshop. We did a screen printing session using thermochromic inks in different ways. Matilda had researched the topic prior to the workshop but it was something new (and exciting!) for Diane.

It is a very complex area; even though we did very basic exercises, we can see the huge potential of the technique!

In the end of the day, we had an introduction to conductive threads for heating smart textiles in the form of a presentation. We can see the opportunities that could arise from the combination of conductivity and thermochromics, and how it could be incorporated into a final garment. But we are looking forward to discover other techniques for heating smart textiles!

We feel pretty confident with the screen printing process; the main apprehension that we have so far concerning the project is the challenge of programming Arduino....but maybe that won't even be necessary!
